Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree ………….

This weeks colour throwdown challenge uses the colours Kraft, Green, Yellow and Pink.

I decided to create an “Australiana” card for this challenge. I used kraft cardstock from Kaisercraft for the main card base. For the background card I used Bristol Cardstock and blended two Distress Oxides for the yellow component of the challenge – the colours being Squeezed Lemonade and Mustard Seed.

The gum leaves, flowers, gumnuts and Kookaburra were coloured using more Distress Oxides. I smooshed the colours onto a craft mat and had alot of fun creating and building the different layers of colours to my die cut pieces. I’ve used this technique before but was really impressed by a YouTube Video from AmyR of Prairie Paper and Ink http://Prairie Paper and Ink when she used the same technique for some dies she cut to create her card for that video. The colours for the gum leaves were Shabby Shutters, Peeled Paint and Rustic Wilderness. The colours I used for the flowers were Spun Sugar, Kitsch Flamingo and Mustard Seed while the gumnuts and Kookaburra were coloured using Brushed Corduroy and Vintage Photo.

I finished off the card with a “Thanks ” die from Paper Rose Studios and used a trio of cardstock. The gum leaves, flowers and gumnuts as well as the Kookaburra sitting on the branch are also dies from Paper Rose Studios. http://Paper Rose Studios

The bottom layer is Kraft Corrugated Cardstock, middle layer is Bristol Cardstock blended with Shabby Shutters and Rustic Wilderness and the “Thanks” was die cut from a piece of card I smooshed using Distress Oxides Antique Linen, Vintage Photo and Gathered Twigs. I then splattered some gold onto the word thanks using some Cadence art and hobby paint in Maya Gold 122. This is a fabulous colour and the gold sparkle is just divine. I decided not to trim the overhanging pieces on the card as I like the look of it just the way it is.

I hope you like my card and look out for a new “Australian” Themed set of cards coming to my blog in the near future.

Apologies for the colours as my camera does not show the colours as clearly as the naked eye.
